The Memorial Monument

Our memorial monument is made of part of a so-called boulder. A boulder (also known as erratic block) is a stone that was carried along by the land-ice during the before-last ice age, the Saalien.

In smaller size they are ofter referred to as cobblestones while in Drenthe they are generally known as flint.

On the front of the monument a text and an RAF pilot wing are applied in copper. The text reads in both English and Dutch “In remembrance of them who died for our freedom”.
